If you love bold, character-filled reds like Châteauneuf-du-Pape, but don’t like paying $50-$100 a bottle, then you simply must try Père Guillot.

This exciting red comes from southern Rhône village of Sablet, one of the charming, picturesque hamlets allowed to place its name on the label next to “Côtes du Rhône Villages.” Named for its trademark sandy soils (“sablet” means sand)—which it has in common with the most coveted Châteauneuf of all, Château Rayas—Sablet’s wines “have an identifiable natural style, one that celebrates nuance and elegance,” according to Decanter critic Matt Walls.

Père Guillot is made by Laurent Guillot, a fourth-generation winemaker whose great-grandfather began crafting wine in 1911. His family estate prioritizes quality above all else, and it shows in this exclusive release. The wine also benefitted from the superb 2022 vintage, which Wine Spectator has rated 95 points for producing wines that are “lush, richly styled, silky and balanced.”

Supremely elegant, thanks to those special sandy soils and the high altitude of Laurent’s vines, Père Guillot brims with notes of attractive violets, ripe black fruits, subtle spice and the signature note of wild herbs, for which the region’s reds are so known and loved.

It’s rare to see Sablet wines in the U.S. Order your share today and taste why it truly is a hidden gem of the Rhône.
