Code Switch is a weekly NPR podcast that explores complex issues of race and identity with unflinching honesty. If a wine has any role to play here, it might be in setting a mood that’s comfortable enough to have uncomfortable conversations. And this smooth Merlot will be just the ticket...
Often overshadowed by its blending partner, Merlot has been memorably described as ‘Cabernet Sauvignon without the pain.’ Well, we think Merlot deserves to stand on its own, as it does in Code Switch. The winemaking team sourced the grapes from prime-sited vineyards across California’s North Coast (home to Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino and Lake counties). And thanks to the stellar 2019 vintage, they had their pick of perfectly ripened grapes.
In the glass, there’s expressive plum, blackberry and cherry aromas. The palate is smooth and juicy, with velvety tannins and a long, rich finish. Set the table for dinner and enjoy alongside grilled chicken breasts, roasted red meats or hearty stews.
