Here’s a seriously thrilling find from Chile—and an estate that makes “one of the world’s greatest red wines,” (JamesSuckling.com). It’s extremely difficult to source an exclusive release, and we’re very sure it will fly out of our cellar…
Founded in 1994 by Alexandra Marnier Lapostolle (part of the family behind famous liqueur brand Grand Marnier), Casa Lapostolle quickly rose to prominence in Chile and the rest of the world. Its flagship red, Clos Apalta, sells for $100-plus a bottle, has been rated a perfect 100 points by critic James Suckling and won the No. 1 Wine of the Year in Wine Spectator’s prestigious Top 100. They put the same care and quality-obsession into their entire range, including this elegant Grande Reserve (which you’ll enjoy at a far friendlier price).
This is the ‘little brother’ edition of their famed Clos Apalta—originating from the newly minted appellation of Apalta—which many refer to as the ‘Napa Valley of Chile.’
And it arrives with quite a bit of its own fanfare. First, there’s 90 points from expert Tim Atkin. And then, 92 points from James Suckling: “a fresh, attractive red with currant, spice and walnut character. Medium body. Savory and spicy finish.”
Named for a lovely street near the original winery, this blend of Cabernet, Carmenere and Syrah was hand-harvested from their biodynamic vineyards (think ultra organic) then treated to 13 months in fine oak barrels. (Under the watchful eye of both winemaker Jacques Begarie and world-famous consultant Michel Rolland.)
The result is a very special wine that, put simply, gives you excellent quality for the price. Hurry for your share—and discover why Master of Wine Jancis Robinson says Casa Lapostolle is “producing sensational wines from Apalta.”
