Our Background | The Lionstone Story
In 1989, Edward Jack and Nicholas Lucca merged more than 45 years of combined experience in the alcoholic beverage business and formed their own import and distribution company, Lionstone International. With extensive knowledge in the direct-sales of wine, Jack and Lucca wanted to position Lionstone as a leading force in a market burdened by a timeworn system of distribution ... an organization with creative new directions. These "new directions" became the solutions to the challenges facing newly emerging enterprises.
Lionstone first established dominance as a source for the direct-sales segment of the wine industry, developing retail accounts across the country. Lionstone specializes in developing portfolios of wines for retailers offering wine clubs.
In 1991, the world's largest mail-order wine company, Direct Wines¨ of London, contacted Lionstone to handle the sourcing of wines and interstate wholesale distribution for the launch of their new program in the United States. Success in developing a distribution network for this venture from the UK led to further associations with several new companies.
In its second year, after changing its name to wine.com, Lionstone distributed over 30,000 cases to consumers nationwide.
Lionstone International provides a wide range of unique services to various companies, both domestic and foreign, looking for approved interstate distribution of their controlled products. Read more about growth of the company.
